Square opening up their solution to developers is another clear indication that focused POS solutions rather than the one-size-fits-all is the current trend of merchant acquisition and retention. Having the right POS solution for your merchant could mean the difference between winning the account or losing them to someone who offers them a solution that meets their business requirements.
You certainly wouldn’t offer a dental POS solution to a pizza shop!!
I came across a company called National Retails Solutions that has a tablet POS specifically designed for Convenience Stores. There are 200k+ of these folks in the US alone and now they have their own targeted POS solution. NRS has 4k of these businesses on their platform and growing every month.
